10 degree rake with stock fork spacing. Larger wheel NOT required for this upgrade. Can be used with or without fork extensions.
- remove front caliper bolts
- remove front axle bolt
- loosen axle pinch bolts
- remove front axle, wheel should roll out now
- remove fender bolts, take fender out
- loosen pinch bolts in both top and bottom stock tree
- carefully slide each fork tube out of the triple trees
- remove any cable brackets that are attached to the tree along with the headlight and its bracket, and handlebars
- remove the stock steering stem, taking off any applicable nut
- you can reuse to top steering bearing, there isn't much stress on that bearing and doesn't wear out, but you will use the new lower bearing that came with the new triple tree set.
- disassemble the new top tree from the steering stem, the set came assembled to show how it should be put together
- using a 10mm hex drive socket in the end of the stem, CAREFULLY slide the lower tree with the stem installed through the neck, make sure the new dust seal and bearing are on the stem which is through the lower tree, thrn CAREFULLY thread the top tree onto the stem. THIS CAN BE TRICKY, USE CAUTION, EVERYTHING SHOULD GO TOGETHER SMOOTHLY AND EASILY, IF YOU FEEL ANY RESTRICTION STOP! LOOSEN AND TRY AGAIN, these threads are pretty fine and can easily be stripped or cross threaded, there will be no warranty for installation mistakes, again, that is why the tree is shipped as an assembled set to show how easily it fits together when you take the top tree off for installation on your bike.
- see installation of fork tube extensions if adding those to your fork tubes before going to next step
- before the final fitting of the tree assembly, install the fork tubes. Make sure to put the correct tube on the correct side, tube with the brake caliper mounting goes on the left side as you are sitting on the bike. Twisting while pushing in is the best way, keep in mind to make sure the tubes are going in squarely through the tree bore holes, they will seem super tight if you aren't perfectly square. Take your time this should be stress-free. Bottom out the tubes to the top tree and snug down the top pinch bolts.
- tighten the stem until there is no play up and down in the bearings and the movement (steering action), is nice and smooth, you could tighten it up enough, so it won't turn at all, that is too tight. Once you have satisfactory tightened the triple tree assembly, remember TIGHTEN THE M6 SET SCREW to the stem locking everything in place. You can use pretty good force on this set screw, as long as you don't strip the drive hex of the set screw.
- you can now remount the stock 21" fender, keep the bolts only snug, you will tighten after the wheel is installed
- roll the wheel assembly back in, making sure the rotor is on the left side, slide the axle in and install the axle bolt, tighten that to roughly 50-60lb/ft of torque. Maybe adding a drop or two of blue loctite on the bolt wouldn't hurt.
- re-install the handlebars, headlight bracket and headlight, signal light per their instructions depending if you have aftermarket signals or not.
- remount the caliper and tighten securely, also finish tightening the fender bolts
- make sure all cables and lines are secured in their brackets or looms and everything looks neat and tidy
- GO ENJOY THE RIDE ON YOUR VERY COOL LOOKING FURY. You did a great job installing this perfect mod to you bike and the other riders will be envious.
- RIDE SAFE!
