Technical Specs/Installation

Fat Shorty Rear Fender ( Suzuki M109 280/300 Rear Tire).

INSTRUCTIONS:
A Suzuki Service Manual is highly recommended.
Step 1
Remove seat, side covers, upper muffler and heat shield, rear fender (see Photo 1)
rear wheel and swing arm.
Photo 1; (Hint: The fender can be removed as an assembly by removing the 4 support strut bolts and
THEN remove the center fender bolt that is in the center of the fender and near the battery box cover.)
Wheel Install;
Step 1;
Remove the rear wheel driven joint, O ring, Driven joint stoppers, lock washers, and wheel dampers.
(Refer to Suzuki Service Manual section 9-33).
Step 2;
Install Wheel dampers, driven joint, stoppers and lock washers in the new wheel.
(Note; the photos below is showing the hub only for illustration, there is no need to disassemble an aftermarket wheel)(we use dish soap for easier removal and install.)
A smaller deep socket that fits inside of the bushings works also. You will have to wiggle the dampers around to get them to go in. They will not just slide into place and will require some effort.
Install final driven flange assy.
Step 3;
The best way to install the 280 on this model bike is to remove the swing arm and re-install it as an assembly.
This should be a two-person job; slide the shaft side of the swing arm into the wheel first (Photo2 below).
Step 5:
Install axel bolt loosely and align the final drive to the wheel.
Step 6:
Install right distance spacer;
Step 7:
Install brake caliper mounting bracket and tighten the axel nut snug only at this time.
(Check left side swing arm / tire clearance at this time. NOTE: you may have to grind
a small about on the left side of the swing arm, grind only what you need to clear the tire.)
Step 8:
Install the prop shaft drive knuckle.
Step 9:
Install swing arm and wheel assembly, being careful when aligning the knuckle to the transmission output shaft. Then install swing arm
Step10:
Install brake caliper and lower suspension components; tighten all fasteners at this time to OEM Torque specs.
Your rear wheel / swing arm assembly is now installed and you are ready for the fender install!
FENDER INSTALL;
Step 1;
Your Fender will come with the struts already installed. Now is the time for paint and rear light wiring.
This fender simply slides over the frame from the rear and mounts with your factory hardware.
Remove the two 6mm phillips head bolts that fasten the battery box to the frame.
These bolts will be replaced with longer hex head bolts later.
Step 2;
Using a small air saw or a hot knife cut the battery box top mounting tab that was used to support the stock side covers.
Step 3;
Remove the rubber grommet and bend the fuel tank side cover mounting tab inward until it is parallel with the ground.
Step 4;
Remove the rear fuel tank mounting bolt and insert the shim supplied, then replace the bolt with the one supplied in your hardware
Step 5;
Fit the new side filler panels. Be sure to LIGHTLY snug the battery box bolts first as you are pushing the filler panel against the frame. Check alignment at this time with the rear struts.
Drill the 1/8" holes through the battery box after alignment is satisfied.
Step 6;
Remove the filler panel and install the U type speed nuts over the holes you drilled.
NOTE: you will have to trim more on the battery box to install these nuts. Trim no more than necessary. Notice the battery box shims
Note; this tape was installed as a cushion between the filler panel and the frame, multiple layers of this can be used to align the filler panel.
Step 7;
Disassemble the stock side panels, the uppers are not used but the lowers are.
Re-install the rearward screws into the lower side cover after removing the upper side cover.
Step 8;
re-install the new filler panels, side covers, and other necessary trim that was removed for access.
Velcro can be added the upper rear of the stock side covers if necessary.
Done. Go ride and re-check your work after your first ride.

This fender design actually lowers the bike center of gravity, making for a more stable ride. Designed for 280 or 300 tires. Passengers are no problem with the thickness of this fender's construction. Excellent fitment. We also paint to closest match possible. Weight limit for passengers is 200 lbs or not to exceed OE's specified weight limit.
Sumo-X fenders are constructed of fiberglass, the key to fiberglass construstion for a criuser bike is thickness of the part. A thin part is a weak part.

Love this kit! Instalation was easy, and could call Kurt for any questions. I can't go anywhere witout people gathering to around, and extending compliments!!
